Happiness is… A Celebration!
Behind the Scenes: “Happiness is… A Celebration!” at Cedar Point
When Cedar Point approached us to contribute to their Peanuts 75th anniversary stage show, “Happiness is… A Celebration!”, we jumped at the chance to help tell one of the most iconic stories in cartoon history—Charlie Brown vs. the kite.
Our challenge? Create kite props that looked great on stage, felt true to the Peanuts style, and could be used by dancers and costumed characters during fast-paced choreography.
We started from scratch—designing lightweight, performer-friendly kites that wouldn’t behave like real ones. These props were crafted using dye-sublimated polyester fabric with high air porosity. That means they move like fabric, not actual kites—no drag, no accidental lift, just smooth, controllable motion.
Each kite was printed in-house using our wide-format dye-sub process, then assembled with carbon and fiberglass structural elements to keep them light and flexible for stage use. We color-matched them to Peanuts artwork and tested them in rehearsal settings to make sure they worked with the choreography.
The final scene—Charlie Brown finally getting his kite in the air—was a heartfelt payoff. Joyful, triumphant, and long overdue.
